Glasnevin Cemetery/Botanic Gardens--Twinning Initiative Trip

Date added: Feb. 13, 2017

On Monday 13th February, 2017, a group of our second years went on a trip to Glasnevin Cemetery and The Botanic Gardens.  This is related to the book we have all been reading in class called In Pieces about a boy who sees ghosts and has just lost his mother; the boy goes to the Cemetery in the book.

We were joined by 2nd year students from Larkin Community College, who have also read the same book.  This is all part of a JCSP Twinning initiative between the two schools.  The author of the book and CDETB Writer in Residence, Kevin McDermott, came in to speak to the class about the book, and is working on a sequel with our students.

We had a really good day out, with a very interesting tour of the Cemetery, learning all about grave robbers, night watchmen, and the famous residents of the Cemetery!

We then had lunch and a walk around all the features of the Botanics:  the tropical glasshouses, the vegetable garden with beehives, the river, and the bandstand.
