Transition Year

Ringsend College started a 4th Year Transition Year in September 2015. The aim of the TY Programme is to give our students the benefit of an extra year to mature and develop before they take on the Leaving Certificate Programme.

Students take part in a range of core subjects including English, Irish, Maths, PE and French. There is a strong focus on academic achievement as well as a range of activities to broaden their learning experiences.

As part of the TY Year the students learn about community work, practical subjects from our Night School Programme and also enjoy a cultural trip abroad as a group.

Transition year assessment:

Transition year students are assessed throughout the year on a credit system. There are 20 credits available for each subject studied and extra credits are given in the areas of extra curricular activities, attendance and the students e-portfolio. Each student documents their year through the use of an e-portfolio. Throughout the year students are given various in class assessments in order to obtain credits. At the end of the year they use their eportfolio as a means of reflecting on their year and the experiences they had.

Transition Year work Experience:

Transition Year is a year of personal growth and development. Our students complete two weeks of work experience throughout the year as well as a weekly community placement. This experience offers the students a chance to see first hand what it is like in the world of work. The community placement also offers them a chance to give something back to the community. In recent years students have taken up work experience and community work in:
Primary schools
Creches
Law firms
